Frequently asked questions

What amenities does Crusade have?
Crusade is equipped with everything you need to train and recover: showers and a fully stocked facility designed to keep you comfortable and focused on your training. A sauna will be installed soon to enhance your post-training recovery experience.

Do I have to be in shape to join?
Not at all! Our classes cater to all fitness levels, and we offer a welcoming, supportive environment where you can build strength, endurance, and skill at your own pace.

How come it's all No-Gi?
We focus exclusively on No-Gi training because it emphasizes movement, adaptability, and fluidity. This style is less reliant on grips and gear, allowing for a faster-paced, more dynamic approach to grappling that translates well to real-life scenarios and other combat sports.

Do you offer a free trial?
Yes! We offer a free private lesson for newcomers, with the option for a friend or family member to join. It’s a great way to experience our approach and see if Crusade is the right fit for you.

Do you have tiered membership options?
No, all memberships at Crusade are for unlimited training. However, we have a unique membership reduction program. Memberships start at $150 per month, and as the gym gains more members, the monthly fee gradually decreases for everyone. For every 20 new members who join, the cost for all members drops by $5, with a target rate of $100 per month. This program makes training more affordable as our community grows, rewarding everyone for supporting Crusade’s growth.

What should I wear to class?
We recommend wearing tighter-fitting t-shirts to minimize the risk of fingers or toes getting caught in the material, which can lead to injuries like sprains or breaks. For bottoms, wear shorts or sports leggings without zippers or pockets to prevent any hazards during training. Comfort and safety are key, so choose attire that allows for a full range of motion.

Is there space for parents to watch?
Yes, we have a huge lounge area with coffee and other treats available. Benches are also provided closer to the mats. We welcome parents who want to be engaged with their child's learning and development as a grappler.

Are there any contracts or hidden fees?
No, we don't have any commitment obligations and due to our price reduction scheme, we have to be completely transparent with our membership numbers and our pricing for it to work effectively!

Is there a planned curriculum?
Yes, but our curriculum is designed with flexibility in mind. We emphasize creativity and adaptability, reducing complexity to help students progress quickly and develop a unique style that suits their strengths.

What type of classes are available?
We offer early morning and lunch classes, evening sessions, and four open mats per week. Our classes accommodate various schedules, skill levels, and goals, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

Can anyone participate on Foodbank Fridays?
Absolutely! Foodbank Friday is open to all, whether you’re a member or not. Instead of a mat fee, we ask for a non-perishable food item, essential supply, or a small monetary donation, which goes directly to local food banks. It’s a great way to train affordably while supporting the community.

Can beginners train here?
Yes! We have beginner-friendly classes that focus on foundational techniques, and our supportive environment ensures new students can learn at their own pace without pressure.

What is the age range for kids' classes?
Our kids' classes are designed for ages 7 and up. However, we can assess younger children on their ability to respond to instruction and their physical abilities. Enrollment for younger kids is reserved for those who demonstrate exceptional skills. We find that many children under 7 do not yet appreciate grappling as a sport, often becoming bored and disruptive in class. Starting at age 5 compared to 7 does not significantly provide an edge in development. Additionally, many gyms that offer classes for 4 to 7-year-olds tend to focus more on games like tag and dodgeball rather than developing real grappling skills.

Why do kids need to pass a fitness & mobility assessment?
We require a fitness and mobility assessment to ensure that each child is physically ready for the demands of grappling. This helps keep training safe for both new and existing students while allowing everyone to get the most out of each class.

How is your kids program different from other gyms?
Our kids’ program goes beyond basic games and activities; we focus on real grappling skills and fitness. By challenging kids physically and mentally, we aim to develop discipline, confidence, and skill, giving them lasting tools for both on and off the mats.
